Frequently asked questions
How the ranking works, where the information comes from, and what we will and won’t vouch for.
Do you charge centres to be listed?
No. Every listing is free and we take no commission on bookings. We have no commercial relationship with any centre on this site, which is why nobody can pay to rank higher — the order is decided by how well a centre matches what you told us, and nothing else.
How do you decide the order of results?
Each centre is scored against your six answers. Format, style, timing, experience level, whether meals and a room are included, and budget all contribute, and every card shows the specific reasons it matched. If you disagree with a reason you can see exactly which signal produced it, which is the point — an unexplained ranking is one you have to take on faith.
Do schools charge foreigners more than Indians?
We cannot tell you from published data, and we will not guess. We read every responding school website in our index — 349 of them — and not one published both an Indian and an international price. Forty-four published only in dollars or euros; eleven only in rupees. So there is no published pair to compare. Everyone in Rishikesh will tell you the rupee price is lower, and they may well be right, but that is not the same as evidence. It is why we ask visitors to report what they were quoted: those reports are the only record either price has.
Where does your information come from?
Place details come from Google. Everything else — what a centre teaches, what formats it runs, whether it claims Yoga Alliance registration — is read from that centre's own website. We publish nothing an operator has not published themselves, and we never copy their descriptions.
Are the tags always accurate?
No, and we would rather say so. Tags are derived by matching keywords against each centre's own site, so a school that teaches something without naming it in readable text can be missing a tag it deserves, and an ambiguous phrase can produce one it does not. Treat tags as a strong lead and confirm with the centre before you pay anything.
Why do some centres show no price?
Because they have not declared one. We read 349 school websites: only 49 published any figure at all, and most of those published several — a matrix of room type, course length and season rather than a price. Reading one number off such a page and calling it the fee would be wrong often enough to mislead you, so we show a price only where the operator has declared it to us. A missing price costs you a phone call; a wrong price costs you a booking you regret.
What does 'link checked' mean?
We re-test every centre's website on a schedule and record when it last responded. If a site fails repeatedly the listing is hidden rather than deleted, because cheap shared hosting goes down for reasons that have nothing to do with whether the school is still running.
Is Yoga Alliance registration verified?
We record it as a claim, not a fact. If a school states registration on its own site we tag it, but you should check the official Yoga Alliance RYS directory before relying on it. A false certification badge is the one error on this site that could have real consequences for you, so we will not present a claim as verification.
Do you take a booking fee?
Never. We do not handle bookings at all. Every listing links straight to the centre's own website, and you deal with them directly on their terms and their prices.
I run a centre. How do I get listed, corrected or removed?
Email us. Listings are free and always will be. You can correct details, declare a price band, add your own photographs, or ask to be removed entirely — removal needs no justification and we will not argue with you about it.
Which places do you cover?
Rishikesh is where our coverage is deepest, and it is where most people looking for yoga in India end up. We index other cities more thinly and would rather be honest about that than claim national coverage we cannot back up.
