How many yoga schools are in Rishikesh?
Every guide says “hundreds”. Nobody says how many, because nobody has counted. We have: 307 yoga schools, ashrams, meditation halls and wellness centres, of which 307 have a website that responded when we last checked.

Reviews, as a measure of scale
Between them these centres carry 82,231 Google reviews. The median centre has 102 — which is the more telling figure, because it shows how many are small operations rather than the large schools that dominate search results.
How we counted
Places are discovered through the Google Places API across a grid of search areas covering Rishikesh, then cross-checked against OpenStreetMap. Each website is fetched and re-checked on a schedule, and we record when it last responded.
We then remove what isn’t a yoga centre: hotels, resorts and campsites that appear in the same search results without teaching anything, places outside the Rishikesh boundary that a text search dragged in, and duplicate listings where one operator has several Google entries. That filtering is why this number is lower than a raw Places search would give you.
What this count does not include
- Teachers operating without a registered business — a significant number in Rishikesh, and invisible to any method we have.
- Centres with no Google presence at all. Rare now, but not zero.
- 54 centres where we could not determine a neighbourhood from the address.
So treat 307 as a floor rather than a ceiling. It is a count of centres findable by someone searching online — which is also the population that matters if you are choosing one.
