Why nobody can tell you what a yoga course here costs
Ask what a 200-hour teacher training in Rishikesh costs and you will get a range so wide it is useless. That is not evasiveness. It is because most schools do not have a price — they have a matrix.
What we found reading their own pages
Of the 47 schools publishing any price at all, 35 publish several. One site lists 6 different figures. They are not contradicting themselves — each number is a different room type, course length or season.
The widest spread on a single school’s own pages runs from ₹28,500 to ₹2,56,500 — 6 figures on one site. Both are that school’s real prices. Neither is “the” price.
The three variables nobody separates
- Room type. Four-share, twin, or private. Often the largest single factor, and frequently the entire difference between two quotes that look far apart.
- Course length. 100, 200, 300 and 500-hour courses sit on the same page, and a quoted figure often belongs to a different one than you assumed.
- Season. Rates fall through the monsoon, when many schools run reduced schedules. A price quoted in July is not a price available in December.
And the variable that is never written down
Whether you are Indian. Of the 307 schools here with a working website, not one publishes both an Indian and an international price, and 87% of published figures are in dollars or euros. The rupee price is not published anywhere — it is given on the phone. We collect what visitors were quoted separately, because published prices cannot show it.
Why this site shows “price on request”
Because for most schools, that is the honest answer. We show a price only where an operator has declared one to us — currently 0 of 307 centres. Reading a number off a page and presenting it as the fee would be wrong often enough to mislead you, and a wrong price costs you a booking you regret. A missing one costs you a phone call.
What to ask instead
- What is the price for my dates, in my room type — all in?
- What would the price be without accommodation?
- What would an Indian student be quoted for the same course?
- What is not included — airport transfer, laundry, excursions, certification fee?
A school that answers these clearly and quickly is telling you something about how it will handle the month you are about to spend with it.
